Local Walks

The Great Yarmouth area has some fantastic history and architecture to admire, and some colourful stories of local characters to go with it! Taking place regularly from May to October, Heritage Guided Walks, led by an official Great Yarmouth heritage guide, are one of the most fascinating ways of discovering more about the town and surrounding area.

Rows, Fishwives and Body Snatchers explores the area around the narrow Great Yarmouth rows, where fishing industry workers lived almost on top of each other, with wealthy merchants houses at one end and pubs, bars and brothels at the other. Was this a match made in heaven? Join the tour to find out more!

Great Yarmouth is rightly proud of its Medieval town wall, one of the most complete Medieval walls in England. Large sections of wall and complete remaining towers can be seen all over town. This fascinating guided walk explores why they were necessary, who came up with the money, how they got built and who got their hands dirty carrying out the hard work.

New for 2012 is The Trawler Trail walk which explores Gorleston-on-Sea through the eyes of the owner of one of the largest fishing fleets in the world. Join the Trawler Trail guided tour to find out how Samuel Hewett was able to keep his fish fresh for longer and command higher prices for his quality produce.

Watch out for some weekend special walks as well during 2012 - looking at graveyards, the seafront and historic South Quay & St. Georges.
